One colour, held with discipline

Sushimi By K — Red velvet booths beneath a lattice screen

Inside the design of Sushimi By K: a single red, carried through lacquer, velvet and lattice, and kept in check by stone and timber.

Strong colour is easy to choose and hard to control. Sushimi By K was designed around one red, and the work was in restraint.

The red appears in three materials only: lacquer on the counters, velvet in the booths, and lattice screens that filter the light into soft bands. Everything else steps back. Stacked stone and dark timber give the eye somewhere to rest, and a sculpted ceiling disc holds the centre of the dining room.

The terrace carries the same palette to the street, under red parasols and planting, so the restaurant announces itself before you walk in.
