About
MAD Studio
Mahmoud Abbas began designing at twenty-one, with private homes. The work that followed took him into restaurants, cafés and lounges across Cairo and the North Coast, but the home has always remained the centre of the practice.
His references rarely come from other interiors. He looks to European rooms of the 1960s and 70s, to the lines of old cars, to fashion shows and to cinema, and brings them back as homes that feel unmistakably of Cairo.
In 2009 he founded MAD to keep every part of a home in one pair of hands: architecture, interiors, furniture made for the room, lighting and art, designed by him and built by the studio’s own team.
In 2022 his villa La Feuille Blanche was named Best Luxury Residential Interior Design in Egypt at the Luxury Lifestyle Awards, and won Platinum at the MUSE Design Awards.
MAD accepts a limited number of residential commissions each year, so that each one receives the founder’s full attention.

The mind
“I don’t design rooms. I design the way a family will live in them.”
