Why every MAD home starts with the furniture

A room is only finished when the last object in it belongs there. Notes on how the studio designs from the piece outwards.
Many interiors are planned as empty rooms and furnished at the end. MAD works the other way round.
Before walls are finalised, the studio asks how a family will sit, eat, read and gather. A banquette shapes a dining nook. A sofa decides where a wall should curve. A shelf decides where light should fall. The architecture follows the life inside it.

Because the studio designs and makes its own furniture, these decisions do not stop at a drawing. Proportions, timber, upholstery and stone are resolved together, so a piece and the room around it are finished as one.

The result is a home that feels inevitable, as if it could never have been arranged any other way.
See it at home: the dining nook at JW Marriott Residences and the powder room at Casa Terrane. Pieces like these are made to order in the Shop.
